Novelist Michael Cox dies aged 60 (Guardian Unlimited)

Author of The Meaning of Night loses battle with the cancer that inspired him to write Michael Cox, the publisher turned novelist who netted a record-breaking advance for his debut, has died aged 60. The author had battled a rare form of cancer for some years, and passed away earlier this week.
