CHICAGO -- A small pre-dawn earthquake hit northern Illinois early Wednesday morning, startling sleepy-eyed residents as far away as Iowa and Indiana, but no damage or injuries were immediately reported. The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the 4.3-magnitude earthquake hit about 50 miles northwest of Chicago at 4 a.m

While at a museum recently, I stopped to admire a rare Parian pitcher. Manufactured in the 19th century by Vermont's United States Pottery Company (a forerunner of Bennington Potters), the piece was the only known version of their popular Niagara Falls pitcher done in color.

Buy.com customers now have direct access to 2.9 million new, hard-to-find, collectible, and used books in the Alibris catalog, with millions more books available later this year.
